Attendance Policy

Category of Absence:

  • Authorized Absence: Absences may generally be authorized for the following reasons:
    • Illness
    • Urgent family reasons (e.g., bereavement, critical illness of a parent or sibling)
    • Participation in a public performance or event
    • Scheduled appointments (e.g., medical, passport, visa)
    • Hajj/Umrah
    • Student having or suspected of having a communicable disease or infestation
  • Unauthorized Absence: Absences will not be authorized in the following circumstances:
    • No explanation is provided by the parent/guardian
    • The explanation offered is deemed unsatisfactory
    • Family holidays taken outside of the school calendar

General Guidelines for Parents:

  1. Advance Notification: Parents/guardians must inform the school office in writing for any planned absences as soon as possible.
  2. Verification of Absence: If a student is absent, parents/guardians must contact the school to verify the reason and dates of absence within 2 days.
  3. Illness Protocol: For illnesses lasting more than 3 days, a written application from the parents/guardians along with a medical certificate must be submitted on the first day of the student’s return.
  4. Documentation for Non-Illness Absences: For absences other than illness, a letter with appropriate documentation explaining the absence must be provided.
  5. Requesting Missed Work: Parents are expected to request missed work for absent days. However, according to policy, missed work will not be provided for unauthorized absences.
  6. Procedure for Authorized Absences: For authorized absences, the following procedures must be followed:
    • Submit an application with proper supporting documents.
    • Notify the school at least 3 days in advance.
    • Collect work from school during specified times.
  7. Responsibility for Missed Work: Parents are responsible for fulfilling certain procedures, which may involve photocopying or directly copying from classmates’ notes after missed work is provided.
  8. Collection of Work: If a bag is sent to collect missed work, it must be submitted to the office by 8:00 AM sharp. Bags for students on authorized leave can be collected after dismissal.
  9. Make-Up Exams: The school maintains a strict policy regarding make-up exams.
    • No make-up exams will be administered for unauthorized absences.
    • Make-up exams will be offered for class tests only.
    • Under no circumstances will make-up exams be allowed for half-yearly or final exams.
    • For authorized absences, make-up exam dates and times will be communicated to parents.
    • All make-up exams must be taken after dismissal time, requiring students to stay after school.

Cooperation Request: Parents/guardians are urged not to submit inappropriate requests for unauthorized leave. Your cooperation in adhering to these policies is greatly appreciated to ensure a smooth educational experience for all students.
